FANGORIA wants to send three lucky Toronto-based readers to
see Film School Confidential’s presentation of GINGER SNAPS BACK: THE BEGINNING
at the Bloor Cinema—an ultra-rare 35mm print presentation with the director,
producers and costume designer in attendance!
Come howl along with the Canadian werewolves on Tuesday, April 19 at 9:30 p.m., only at The Bloor! Horror cinema got a jolt of evil estrogen with 2001’s satirical shocker GINGER SNAPS; the suburban saga of sisters Ginger (Katherine Isabelle) and Brigitte (Emily Perkins) and their blood-spattered run-ins with “the curse” of lycanthropy, the sleeper hit spawned a direct (and decidedly offbeat) sequel in 2003 and then this second, even more eccentric follow-up. GINGER SNAPS BACK: THE BEGINNING is a very strange, austere proto-Western, taking the teenage sisters back into the past in a bizarro-world retelling of the myth during the turn of the century. It’s an epic, gorgeously filmed thriller filled with sex, blood, humor and, of course, howling werewolves hungering for blood.
Film School Confidential founder and Fango editor Chris Alexander, along with Toronto film journalist Kelly Stewart, are excited to showcase a pristine print of this rarely screened film, with in-person appearances by director Grant Harvey, producers Steve Hoban (SPLICE) and Paula Devonshire (SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD) and costume designer Alex Kavanagh (SAW II-3D, REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA), plus prizes courtesy of sponsors Eyesore Cinema and FANGORIA magazine. You won’t want to miss this!
