Fango heard from Michael Colburn, director of THE TOY BOX, the fact-based serial-killer thriller we first reported about on our newsblog. He sent along some exclusive photos (which you can see after the jump) with an update on how the Texas-based project is proceeding.

“The film is going great,” Colburn (pictured in the first photo with actress Maria Ruiz) tells us. “We recently finished filming on seperate weekends with scream queen Bianca Barnett [second, third and fourth photos] and local actress Julin [from THE FINAL, SWEATSHOP and BOGGY CREEK]. It was a blast! Both are hard workers and were committed to making the scenes their own. With the movie being based on a true story, it was amazing to see how much thought and time they put into the characterizations of these two women.”

THE TOY BOX is based on John Glatt’s book CRIES IN THE DESERT, which chronicles the crimes of David Parker Ray, who was suspected of torturing and murdering dozens of victims in a homemade chamber. “Jeremy Norton is portraying the older Ray under the master artistry of Kristi Boul’s makeup team,” Colburn says. “He’s spending almost three hours with them every time we shoot with him, but the comments we received at Texas Frightmare Weekend were really strong toward the film, his portrayal and his aging.

“Producers Jennifer Peebles [who adapted Glatt’s tome, with the screenplay written by Kristin Wong], Kelly C. Smith and Dana Walsh are currently getting a bunch of scenes organized for this summer’s shoot, and we are looking to wrap in mid-late September,” he continues. All three also co-star in the film, along with Scott Guthrie, Kevin Dowd, Sandra Isabel Carrasco, Maria Ruiz, Marc Isaacs and Jessica Flores. (Pictured right, front to back: Flores, Smith, Carrasco, Ruiz, Barnett, Peebles and Walsh) “This cast and crew, also including my long-term mentor and fellow film director Jason Swarr and Chuck Norfolk, are such a honor and a privilege to work with,” Colburn concludes. “They are the talent who are going to make the film successful.” You can see THE TOY BOX’s teaser trailer below and its Facebook page here.
