As this year’s Cannes Film Festival winds down, news has been coming in consistently about movies being picked up for distribution in various territories, and a pair of genre features have been secured to play in the U.S.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, WE ARE WHAT WE ARE (SOMOS LO QUE HAY, pictured above), the buzz-building cannibal film by Mexican writer/director Jorge Michel Grau, has been acquired by IFC Films. The movie focuses on a trio of flesheating siblings and their mother left to fend for themselves after the death of the father, the family breadwinner (or fleshwinner); see our last item on the movie with the trailer here.

Meanwhile, Anchor Bay Entertainment grabbed ALTITUDE, directed by comics artist Kaare Andrews from a script by Paul A. Birkett (whose credits include Syfy flicks like HELLHOUNDS and ICE TWISTERS). THE HILLS HAVE EYES II’s Jessica Lowndes, MY SUPER PSYCHO SWEET 16’s Julianna Guill, Ryan Donowho, Landon Liboiron and Jake Weary star in this variation on the five-friends-in-a-van formula; here, it’s a group of youths on a small-plane outing who run into supernatural terror. Check out the trailer below. Specific release plans have yet to be announced for both movies.
