Special FX artist and creature designer Patrick Tatopoulos (pictured) directed his first feature film last year with UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS. Since then, he’s been attached to helm a number of features, and now he’s in negotiations to take on Participant Media’s eco-horror tale THE COLONY.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports that production begins in the fall on the film, which centers on a group of survivors who, forced underground by the next ice age, must fight to preserve humanity against a savage threat. Stacy Title and Jonathan Penner (director and actor/co-executive producer of HOOD OF HORROR respectively) wrote the original script, which was rewritten by David Lee Johnson. Tatopoulos has also been announced as director of the indie monster film SUSPENSION (see item here), Lakeshort Entertainment’s I, FRANKENSTEIN and DreamWorks’ NON-STOP.
