Iconic animation director and politically-minded provocateur Ralph Bakshi is crowdfunding an "animated cop, mafia, horror movie" set in the 1960s in the weird, wonderful Coney Island, NY.

The director of FRITZ THE CAT, COONSKIN and FIRE AND ICE is seeking to continue pushing boundaries with THE LAST DAYS OF CONEY ISLAND, a project seeking help on Kickstarter and which Bakshi describes as "a series of shorts set against the strange backdrop of Coney Island and all its weird characters: crooked cops, broken hearts, jaded strippers, and singers."

"In my films I have always discussed America: who we are, what we are, for better and worse, and the ridiculous," he writes, something that remains true to this day, evident in one of his most recent shorts, TRICKLE DICKLE DOWN.

You can see the fiery national treasure's pitch video below, and help out at THE LAST DAYS OF CONEY ISLAND's official Kickstarter.
