The popular series of RESIDENT EVIL films added an extra dimension to its zombies when its latest installment, AFTERLIFE, became the first to be lensed in 3-D. Now, word has come down that they’ll be even bigger than before as well, thanks to the wonders of IMAX.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE will open on giant IMAX screens simultaneously with its general release from Screen Gems September 10. It’s the Sony Pictures division’s first pic in the process, and will also, presuming it follows in the ratings tradition of its predecessors, be the first R-rated horror film to get the supersized treatment. “In 3-D, fans of RESIDENT EVIL will have a whole new way to enjoy this next exciting chapter, and we’re delighted that audiences will also have the opportunity to experience the film in IMAX 3-D at digital IMAX locations, where they will feel like they are virtually in the movie,” Sony’s Rory Bruer tells the trade. AFTERLIFE, which was written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and stars franchise stalwarts Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter, is being digitally remastered for IMAX now. Its trailer can be seen below, and its official website is here; look for exclusive on-set coverage of the film at this site and in Fango’s pages as the summer continues.
