Kurt Russell took on an alien xenomorph in THE THING and bad-ass chicks in GRINDHOUSE/DEATH PROOF, but how will he fare against the world of the occult? We’ll find out, now that he’s been cast as the lead of UNDYING.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Russell will play private investigator Virgil Lone in the movie, which was originally known as REAPER. When he’s hired by a mysterious woman, Virgil winds up in a surreal supernatural realm. The script was written by THE BOOK OF ELI’s Gary Whitta, and the film is being produced by Media 8 Entertainment’s Stewart Hall, Circle of Confusion’s David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis and Cynthia Stafford, Lanre Idewu and Jeff Kalligheri of Queen Nefertari Productions (the latter is also behind the Butcher Brothers’ upcoming BLACK SUNSET; see story here). “Kurt Russell is perfect for this role,” Hall tells the trade. “He is truly one of the few actors who audiences continually embrace as a real hero.” Shooting is set to start this fall on UNDYING, for which a director has yet to be named.
