Looks like we’re going to have to wait a while longer for
one of the most debated and anticipated remakes of 2013.
Word came down late yesterday that Sony has delayed the
release of the new screen version of Stephen King’s CARRIE from March 15 all
the way to October 18, in the thick of the Halloween season. There it will
follow LD Entertainment’s DEVIL’S RAPTURE and Fox’s HAUNTS by a week, and get a
jump on Paramount’s PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5. In CARRIE’s place, Sony has slotted
the Tri-Star thriller THE CALL (formerly THE HIVE), about a 911 operator (Halle
Berry) trying to save a girl (Abigail Breslin) from the serial killer who has
abducted her; THE MACHINIST’s Brad Anderson directed from a script by THIR13EN
GHOSTS’ Richard D’Ovidio. CARRIE was helmed by Kimberly Peirce and written by
former Fango intern Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with Chloë Grace Moretz as the
telekinetic teen heroine and Julianne Moore as her religious-fanatic mom.
