What could top Guillermo del Toro's latest announcement? A musical, of course.
Deadline reports that del Toro, ever busy, is working with the legendary Paul Williams (of THE MUPPETS and PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE fame) on a musical theater adaptation of his incredible PAN'S LABYRINTH. The book is apparently finished, with Williams set to pen lyrics and composer Gustavo Santaolalla on music.
PAN'S LABYRINTH, as you know, tells the tale of young Ofelia and the fantasy world she finds herself in, escaping the harsh reality of 1944 Spain and her mother's boyfriend, the fascist Captain Vidal. The film is undeniably rich in imagination, design and emotion, all of which could potentially translate beautifully to the stage. Williams certainly increases said potential.
