Back in 1968-69, Britain’s ITV channel ran a popular show called RANDALL AND HOPKIRK (DECEASED), in which a policeman is killed in the line of duty and comes back as a ghost to continue battling crime with his old partner. Now the show itself is being resurrected.
Variety reports that Syfy has ordered a pilot for an updated version (the show’s second redux, following one for BBC1 in 2000-01). ITV Studios will produce the pilot, with Josh Bycel and Jonathan Fener scripting and also executive-producing with Howard Braunstein. “Josh and Jonathan have found a great way to update the buddy-cop formula with a supernatural twist,” Syfy’s Mark Stern tells the trade. Randall and Hopkirk were played by Mike Pratt and Kenneth Cope respectively in the first incarnation, Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves in the second.
