No, it’s not a new film version of F. Paul Wilson’s novel,
but a project with a different literary source being tackled by a world-class
director.
Variety reports that Peter Weir (pictured), director of MASTER AND COMMANDER, WITNESS and many
more, will helm THE KEEP, based on Jennifer Egan’s modern Gothic novel. The
story concerns two cousins whose lives were damaged by a childhood prank, and
who reunite 20 years later to renovate a medieval castle in Eastern Europe.
Isolated within its walls, the men fall victim to paranoia and terror as that
past event comes back to haunt them. The movie will roll next year on location
in the German state of Thuringia and possibly at Studio Babelsberg near Berlin;
Alfred Huermer of that country’s Integral Film will produce with Said Ben
Said’s Paris-based SBS Productions. The two companies are also teaming on the
upcoming David Cronenberg drama MAPS TO THE STARS, toplining Rachel Weisz,
Robert Pattinson and Viggo Mortensen, and Huermer is additionally involved with
Beatriz Sanchis’ TODOS ESTAN MUERTOS (ALL ARE DEAD), starring THE SKIN I LIVE
IN’s Elena Anaya as a woman trying to contact her deceased son.
