One of the highlights of BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO's golden age of Italian horror-setting is its ultra-neat recreation of gialli-esque opening credits. Now, the movie-within-the-movie, THE EQUESTRIAN VORTEX's titles are online!
Peter Strickland's BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO is a strange, strange beast. The tale of sheepish, UK sound designer Gilderoy (Toby Jones) and the journey he embarks on working for tyrannical Italian director Santini and his all-girls boarding school horror, THE EQUESTRIAN VORTEX is one of fractured reality and increasing frustration over airfare reimbursement. The film is incredibly fetishistic about the post-production process and to many, the picture described within will sound much better.
Whether BERBERIAN ends up being in your wheelhouse is for only you to decide. I've warmed to it upon reflection of its intentions, but whatever you do, don't expect any sort of easily categorized work. Still, I doubt any would differ on how cool this title sequence is.
IFC is releasing BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO on an undetermined date. The music was done by Broadcast and you can read FANGORIA's review here.
