With his science-fiction thriller SPLICE awaiting its release June 4 via Warner Bros. (though if you live in New York City, you don’t have to; click here to find out how to see it for free tomorrow night!), Vincenzo Natali has signed on for another venture into the dark fantastic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Natali will helm NEUROMANCER, the long-mooted film version of William Gibson’s classic 1984 cyberpunk novel. He replaces TORQUE’s Joseph Kahn, who was previously set to direct Hayden Christensen in the movie. Natali is also rewriting the adaptation of Gibson’s book, which tells of a literally and figuratively burned-out former hacker-for-hire who is recruited by a mysterious entity to do a job that could restore his reputation—and his mind.
