RaroVideo, purveyors of vintage, obscure Italian horror, are bringing Giorgio Ferroni's WURDALAK-based 1972 feature, NIGHT OF THE DEVILS to DVD & Blu-ray.
As DVD & Blu-ray increasingly becomes a collector's medium, I'm always impressed by the selection and packaging from Italian film boutique RaroVideo—who most recently introduced me to the likes of MURDER OBSESSION and THE PERFUME OF THE LADY IN BLACK.
Their latest dip into 70s Italian terror sees an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's THE WURDALAK (previously filmed as a segment in Mario Bava's timeless BLACK SABBATH) in the form of NIGHT OF THE DEVILS. Starring Gianni Garko and featuring FX from the late, legendary Carlo Rambaldi, the film sees "a nameless mentally ill man (Garko) found wandering in the woods, his mind lost in fever dreams of gruesome, sexual imagery. After admitted into a psychiatric hospital, the man flashes back to his nightmarish encounter with a backwoods family whose dynasty holds a centuries-old curse. What follows is a night of unrelenting horror."
Fango's own Chris Alexander heavily endorses the film, which you can pick up September 25 (a week after Kino releases three of Mario Bava's finest on Blu. This is a damned good fall for Italian horror lovers) with these accompanying features:
• New HD Transfer / Original trailer
• Video interview with Chris Alexander, Fangoria Magazine
• New and improved English subtitle translation
• A fully illustrated booklet on genesis and production of the film
• A video interview with composer Giorgio Gaslini
