This writer first came across the original Fluxx card game
back in college, while working on a student film. It was the perfect game for
waiting. It’s fast-paced and easy to pick up; anyone can jump in. Now H.P.
Lovecraft’s Elder Gods have picked up on it, and the result is Cthulhu Fluxx.
Fluxx is great for any occasion and can be played in any
situation, and over the years it has grown into many forms, each one catering
to a new realm of fandom. Horror Fluxxers will remember Zombie Fluxx, and maybe
even Martian Fluxx. With Cthulhu Fluxx, the guidelines are a little stranger
and it does take longer to catch on, but after a few rounds, the rules become
clearer—perhaps as some sort of descent into madness becomes greater. Unlike
past versions, this Fluxx variation has educational value, as it follows the
stories laid out by Lovecraft extremely well. It’s on sale now, so grab this
NECRONOMICON of card games—but try to hold onto what little shred of sanity you
have left.
