Goblin's truly iconic composition went to the Olympics today.
I didn't think I'd have anything Olympics-related to post this month... and then two amazing Russian synchronized swimmers blew their competition, ahem, out of the water, with a routine set to Goblin's SUSPIRIA.
A mechanical, kinetic and frightening bit of "water ballet," Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina surprised us in the film world by swimming with an Argento feel. Not only is this great, but it proves just how iconic the Goblin track is. From opening Argento's classic, to RJD2's remix track, to Canadian hardcore heroes Alexisonfire entering the stage to it, to this. SUSPIRIA has managed to capture and inspire for over thirty years now. That's pretty fucking cool.
While video from today's swim is as yet unavailable, Ishchenko and Romashina performed the same piece in April to qualify for London 2012. You can see it below. Thanks to @MrBeaks, who noticed as it was happening.
