It's so ludicrous, I'm dying to see it!
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the CW, formerly the WB, and home to many of the young stars that pop up in studio horror, is considering a series adaptation of beloved Japanese cult classic BATTLE ROYALE. No doubt inspired by the spotlight shone on Kinji Fukasaku's film around the release of THE HUNGER GAMES, a long in-development remake could be transitioning to television.
The film, and novel on which it was based, of course see a high school class pitted against each other in death games on a remote island. It's notoriously violent, or perhaps notorious for its display of high school-aged violence, so one can only imagine the CW version would be toned down considerably.
Either way, this is ridiculous. At the moment, no deal is in place, but wouldn't it be kind of wonderful if the CW created a shared universe of all its shows and then used BATTLE ROYALE as a means to have characters from the likes of DAWSON'S CREEK and POPULAR face off against GOSSIP GIRLs and such?
