Can television make room for the most classic of vampires?
Deadline reports that NBC is adding to its genre-centric slate (Munsters reboot MOCKINGBIRD LANE, HANNIBAL, GRIMM and a possible Frankenstein spin) by developing a period-set soapy DRACULA tale to star THE TUDORS' Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (which is probably why its being described as THE TUDORS meets DANGEROUS LIAISONS).
Tony Krantz (MULHOLLAND DR.) is producing the prospective series. The plot would see Dracula in London, pursuing she who he believes is the reincarnation of his long-dead love. With the glut of wannabe sultry, sudsy genre currently ruling the airwaves (with pretty much only AMERICAN HORROR STORY being fun), and the recent reveal that the new Munsters aren't exactly monstrous-looking, you can bet NBC would be going a less-frightening route. Even if they weren't, would a DRACULA series work anyway? Would Meyers guest on MOCKINGBIRD LANE, as they plan to use the Universal Monsters?
