Independent horror filmmaker Marc Selz (SHORT CUT ROAD, THE ROCKVILLE SLAYER and SATANIC PANIC) has launched a new company called Psycho Logical Pictures with the goal of making a series of efficient, economical horror flicks in his native Illinois.

“The name of our company is a play on the splitting of the word ‘psychological’ and fitting for a company that will mainly focus on high concept horror/thriller films,” Selz tells Fango. “The name is telling us that some indie horror filmmakers, like myself, question ourselves at times if we’re crazy to continue making more films in this tough business, however it is logical for us no matter what obstacles we’re faced with, to push ourselves further to grow and master our craft. Psycho Logical Pictures will allow us to do just that.”

Selz is working on several projects under the new production shingle. Psycho Logical Pictures will get their feet wet by shooting a short film first. Titled DEAD SPOT and slotted to shoot this fall, the mini-feature is a thriller based off of Selz’s treatment. “DEAD SPOT is a short psychological thriller in the vein of classic TV shows like THE TWILIGHT ZONE and TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE,” says Selz, who envisions expanding the short into a feature film at some point. In DEAD SPOT, a man on a road trip finds himself stuck on a deserted wooded path when his car suddenly dies. All of his electronic devices, including his cell phone, have failed too. With nobody in sight, he decides to trek out and seek help only to find that he’s not the only one in the area who’s been stranded. Something evil is in the vicinity trapping and stalking people one by one…

Psycho Logical Pictures has purchased new equipment including the Scarlett X RED Camera package, which will be used to shoot DEAD SPOT and future Psycho Logical movies. Selz says he’s looking to branch off and work with other independent horror filmmakers that have the talent and drive or can help out in different areas and connect with the Psycho Logical team.

Joining Selz at Psycho Logical Pictures will be: scriptwriter/producer Jonathon Pool; Wendy Bower as director of marketing; previous Selz film associate Karl Sundstrom as a writer, actor and composer; and Claudia Del Real-Selz, associate producer and another veteran of previous Selz shoots.

“With Psycho Logical Pictures, I hope to redefine horror filmmaking in the Midwest,” says Selz, “and make some pretty scary movies at the same time.” A company website will be up and running soon here.
