We’re not sure if it’s a genre movie or not, but any reunion of the team behind the genuinely frightening ghost story THE ORPHANAGE sounds intriguing to us. And director Juan Antonio Bayona (pictured) and screenwriter Sergio G. Sanchez are reteaming on a project called THE IMPOSSIBLE.

Variety reports that the movie is based on true events that took place during the tsunami that devastated Thailand in 2004; further story details haven’t been revealed. Genre regular Naomi Watts (next doing Jim Sheridan’s psychological thriller DREAM HOUSE) and Ewan McGregor will star in the movie, which is being produced by Belen Atienza, Enrique López Lavigne (the duo also readying Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s INTRUDERS; see item here) and Alvaro Agustin. THE IMPOSSIBLE rolls in August in Alicante, Spain, with Thai location shooting commencing in October. Summit Entertainment has acquired U.S. and international distribution rights outside Spain, where the film will be released by Warner Bros.
