The highly anticipated third film from KILL LIST director Ben Wheatley is coming our way.
Just prior to its premiere at Cannes today, SIGHTSEERS has been acquired by IFC, who just earlier this year distributed the filmmaker's incredible KILL LIST. Coming off the heaps of (deserved) praise on that film, SIGHTSEERS looks to be just as unsettling, yet topped with Wheatley's penchant for the most gallows of humor, and it's not surprising it was nabbed so quickly.
Here's the synopsis of the horror/dark comedy about two mad lovers: "Chris (Steve Oram) want to show Tina (Alice Lowe) his world and he wants to do it his way - on a journey through this sceptred isle in his beloved Abbey Oxford Caravan. Tina's led a sheltered life and there are things that Chris needs her to see - the Crich Tramway Museum, the Ribblehead Viaduct, the Keswick Pencil Museum and the rolling countryside that separates these wonders in his life. But it doesn't take long for the dream to fade. Litterbugs, noisy teenagers and pre-booked caravan sites, not to mention Tina's meddling mother, soon conspire to shatter Chris's dreams and send him, and anyone who rubs him up the wrong way, over a very jagged edge..."
For more, you can see the film's first clip below, as well as what the director had to tell Fango about it here. No word on release just yet, but hopefully very, very soon.
