A NSFW first glimpse at Franck Khalfoun's remake of MANIAC has come out of Cannes and... what a first impression.
First Showing nabbed the footage, which as of right now is incomplete due to an issue on the Cannes site. But truthfully, that doesn't matter. What we do see seems to promise a worthy successor to William Lustig's sleaze classic. MANIAC looks weird, unflinching and downright unsettling.
Cannes is underway now, hopefully positive word will break out about the finished product.
"Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank's obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill."
