Will THE POSSESSION pick up where THE UNBORN dropped the ball on Jewish demon films?
Directed by the often-excellent Ole Bornedal (NIGHTWATCH, JUST ANOTHER LOVE STORY) and produced by Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures, THE POSSESSION sees "Clyde and Stephanie Brenek's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick) youngest daughter Em become oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host."
I like the build-up in this trailer, and while there's a certain sense of "glossy PG-13 thriller" on hand for the set up, there are also plenty of hints of Bornedal's directorial strengths as a visual stylist (especially the bathed in red bit at 2:06) peeking through to get us excited!
