Disney plans to reunite director and author for an adaptation of the highly popular children's novel.
Deadline reports that Disney is taking on the esteemed fantasy author's tale of a young boy who, following his parents' murder, resides in a cemetery, brought up by the spirits who remain there. If the boy leaves, however, he's in danger of falling into the clutches of the man Jack, who killed his family.
No word on if the film would be live action or animated, but with the updated news that THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS' Henry Selick is attached to direct, it seems a strong bet for stop motion. Selick and Gaiman's styles previously met on CORALINE.
Nevertheless, I put in a call to my boss 12 year-old nephew Adam, a voracious reader, and asked what he'd rather see. "Animated, I like animation better. I also wouldn't want it to be too realistic, because it would be too creepy." About the book itself, he added, "It's interesting, mysterious and kind of scary, not very scary. He [Bod, the main character] was always sad, but always curious. I don't really remember most of it because I read it a really long time ago."
