THE WALKING DEAD's season finale held surprises galore, but no doubt one sword slice and character introduction topped them all. [SPOILERS Ahead]

Following the finale, Robert Kirkman, while discussing this past season on AMC's Talking Dead announced that the hooded stranger with chained zombies in tow, aka fan favorite Michonne, will be played by Danai Gurira (TREME) in season three.

If you've avoided the comics thus far, know that Michonne is so well regarded for a reason. Strong, thoughtful and utterly badass, her dynamic is one that greatly adds to the group and their future endeavors.

Still, something struck me about her introduction. I"m afraid that in trying so hard to be deliberate and "real", THE WALKING DEAD's tone has become one note, and so much so that despite living in a world overrun by the undead, a character with two katanas and chained "pet" zombies felt out of place, and almost outlandish. I hope the show has found its groove (it definitely improved in this second half of season two), and that like the comics, Michonne will add a great deal to the upcoming season and their time in the prison.
