“You Are Chum!” reads the tagline for JURASSIC SHARK, the
latest horror flick from Canadian filmmaker Brett Kelly, and judging from the
trailer below it’s easy to see why. On hand for the carnage are the requisite
bikini babes, their boyfriends a.k.a. appetizers, the frightened local who
knows exactly what’s going on and, of course, a giant prehistoric apex
predator.
“The shark was beneath a layer of ice that an oil company drills through,” Kelly tells us; he also passed on the exclusive still seen below. “The drilling allows the shark to escape.” An environmental statement? Perhaps, but any politics aside, the mood of JURASSIC SHARK is pure fun, akin to recent marine-life-run-amok fare as PIRANHA 3D and SHARKTOPUS. “I don’t know [about] PIRANHA 3D,” Kelly says, “but I can say that we are going for a campy vibe, as the title would imply. I’m a fan of Roger Corman, so if there is an influence creeping in, it’s likely from there.”
Fans shouldn’t have to wait long to get in on the feeding frenzy, as this Ottawa-shot sharksploitationer is in the can. According to Kelly, “Filming is complete and the movie has been delivered. I imagine a release is forthcoming.” In the meantime, see the trailer below the pic and visit JURASSIC SHARK’s Facebook page.
