Toronto-based film writer and Fango contributor, Kelly Stewart continues his Fright Nights (at The Projection Booth, 1035 Gerrard St E) series on Friday, March 2nd at 9pm. Read on to find out how to see the lastest show for free!
BATTLE ROYALE is the film you will be telling your friends to check out when they try and get you to see THE HUNGER GAMES later on this month. So beat them to the punch if you are in the Toronto area for this exclusive screening of the director's cut of the film.
Based on the 1999 global best-seller by Koushun Takami, the futuristic tale first came to the screen in 2000, directed by the legendary Kinju Fukasaku. Authors, filmmakers and film fans the world over consider the film a classic. It's bad ass, it's epic, it's messed up, it's never had a proper theatrical or DVD release before in North America. This is the only chance to see it on the big screen in Toronto before it finally comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray later in the month.
Also on the bill is the world premiere of the new short film FAMILIAR. This is the third film from Fatal Pictures (Richard Powell and Zach Green) that previously brought you CONSUMPTION (2008) and WORM (2010). FAMILIAR stars Robert Nolan (SICK/Red: Werewolf Hunter), Astrida Auza & Cathryn Hostick as the seemingly idyllic, yet ultimately doomed Dodd Family. Through a series of tragic events, a middle aged man grows to suspect the negative impulses plaguing his mind may not be his own.
FAMILIAR's director, cast and crew will be there for an introduction and a Q&A afterwards. The evening will be hosted by Fango film writer and your master of ceremonies Kelly Stewart. Prizes will be given out courtesy of FANGORIA, Suspect Video and Anchor Bay Entertainment.
