It was previously reported that the much-talked-up Cuban horror/comedy JUAN OF THE DEAD was picked up by
Focus Features’ digital arm Focus World for DVD, VOD and other small-screen
formats, and now the word has come through on who will be handling its
big-screen release in the States.
Outsider Pictures has announced that it has picked up JUAN OF THE DEAD, with the first screening set for the Miami International Film Festival, which takes place in the Florida city March 2-11. Director Alejandro Brugués, actor Alexis Díaz de Villegas and others will be present at the show. The movie will open shortly thereafter for an exclusive run at MDC’s Tower Theater in Miami, with other cities to follow.
JUAN OF THE DEAD stars Díaz de Villegas in the title role, a guy who decides to start a zombie-busting business after the undead invade Havana. “It’s a satirical look at the present day streets of the controversial regime and we’re excited to add it to our diverse catalogue of films,” says Outsider co-founder Paul Hudson. “And it’s a great zombie film too!” Keep your eyes on this site for further word on when JUAN will stalk into a city near you.
