Katie Aselton's thriller seems to be the first out of Sundance's midnight lineup with a deal.
Deadline reports that LD Entertainment has picked up the rights to the film, directed by star Aselton and written by BAGHEAD co-director Mark Duplass. BLACK ROCK sees its helmer, and co-stars Lake Bell and Kate Bosworth essay three longtime friends who travel to a remote island with the intentions of mending a fallout. There, they run afoul of three sadistic vets and must survive.
Sadly, word on the film from genre fans seems none-too-strong, with both Quint at Ain't It Cool and Devin at Badass Digest having serious issues that seem to go beyond it being a shallow copy of survival horror classics.
Apparently the film's distro deal was a big one, with a bidding war taking place, so of course it could be a divisive work with many seeing value.
