After a typically secretive production, Lionsgate has let a few details loose on SAW VII, the latest entry (and first in 3-D, via the brand new SI-3D digital system) of its popular series, due to cut into theaters October 22. The company released a synopsis as well as a cast list, which includes a returning star from the original film.
Cary Elwes is back as Dr. Lawrence Gordon, last seen minus an important appendage at the end of the first SAW (pictured). (Interesting to see him involved, as the actor filed suit against his managers and the SAW producers in 2005, claiming he didn’t receive promised profits from the film’s release; the case was settled out of court.) Tobin Bell is, of course, still hanging in there as the dead-but-not-gone Jigsaw, and more recent regulars Costas Mandylor and Betsy Russell encore once again as bad Detective Hoffman and Jigsaw’s wife Jill. Also part of the SAW VII ensemble are:
Sean Patrick Flanery as Bobby Dagen
Gina Holden as Joyce
Chad Donella as Gibson
Laurence Anthony as Rogers
Dean Armstrong as Cale
Naomi Snieckus as Nina
The plot summary Lionsgate announced goes like this: “As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror…” The sixth entry’s director (and longtime franchise editor) Kevin Greutert helmed the film from a script by VI-VI’s Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan.
