Proving that just about anything can merit a hi-def upgrade
these days, the Southern-fried 1971 monster cheapie ZAAT (a.k.a. THE BLOOD
WATERS OF DR. Z) is coming in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack next month, restored and
tricked out with a bunch of special features.
Film Chest releases ZAAT February
21 on the CULTRA and HD Cinema Classics labels. Produced and directed by Don
Barton and scripted by Ron Kivett and Lee Larew, ZAAT is set in the Florida
swamps, where ostracized scientist Dr. Kurt Leopold (Marshall Grauer) performs
secret experiments to prove that humans can be transformed into fish (to what
purpose, we’re not sure). He succeeds in turning himself into a walking catfish
monster who sets out to make fish the dominant species on Earth, opposed by the
local sheriff, a biologist and a couple of agents from the Inter-Nations
Phenomenon Investigations Team (INPIT). The movie will be presented in 16x9
widescreen, newly transferred from original 35mm elements, with the following
extras:
• Cast/crew audio commentary
• Radio interview
• Before-and-after restoration demo
• Original 35mm trailer
• Television spots
• Outtakes
• Original movie art postcard
Retail price is $19.99. Dig the movie’s trailer below.
