Two films about Alfred Hitchcock at particular moments in his lengthy career (one set during PSYCHO-era, and one during THE BIRDS) have both attracted some high-caliber cast.

The Hollywood Reporter brought news today of Helen Mirren possibly joining ALFRED HITCHCOCK AND THE MAKING OF PSYCHO, the Anthony Hopkins-starring tale to-be-directed by Sasha Gervasi (ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL). The film will chronicle Hitchcock's attempts at getting his now seminal horror film made. Mirren, if confrmed, will play Hitchock's wife, Alma Reville.

Meanwhile, Deadline is reporting on the HBO/BBC co-production THE GIRL, which will see Toby Jones (TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, THE MIST) essay the legendary filmmaker and Sienna Miller (LAYER CAKE) take on the role of Tippi Hedren. THE GIRL is concerned with Hitchcock's apparent obsession with the star of THE BIRDS and MARNIE. Hedren, as well as Hitchcock biographer Donald Spoto (who writes about the fascination in the excellent THE DARK SIDE OF GENIUS) is said to be consulting.

Funnily enough, this is the second time Jones has played a real-life figure in opposition to what will probably be a much bigger/more publicized project, as his own excellent turn as Truman Capote in INFAMOUS was overshadowed by Phillip Seymour Hoffman in CAPOTE in 2005/06.
