John Penney, whose screenwriting credits range from THE
KINDRED to RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD III to Brian Yuzna’s upcoming AMPHIBIOUS
3D, sent along a quartet of creepy exclusive photos from his new
writing/directing venture, SHADOWS, starring the SAW series’ Cary Elwes
(pictured left). Check ’em out past the jump, along with the poster and
trailer.
SHADOWS, which took home the Best Film award at the Bram
Stoker International Film Festival and the Best Horror Film prize at the
Fantasy Horror Awards in Italy, begins with an American, Jeff (Elwes), his Thai
wife Sua (Paula Taylor) and their son Kyle getting into a horrible accident in
Bangkok while driving to visit Sua’s father. When Jeff wakes up weeks later in
a hospital, he’s horrified to learn he’s the only survivor and unsettled by his
own lack of grief—and by ghosts he begins seeing. Thanks to his nurse, Choi
(Ploy Jindachote), a spiritual adviser named Mae (Viyada Umarin) and American
expat Warren (William Hurt) Jeff learns that his family’s souls are trapped in
a Shadow World where the spirits of those who have died prematurely and
violently dwell, and that is own soul is trapped with them, which is why he
cannot feel grief. Jeff must now venture into the Shadow World to free his soul
and help his family cross over.
See the trailer below the photos, and keep your eyes on this site for updates. Penney also informs us that he’s working on a supernatural thriller novel called TRUCK STOP, which will be available for download at Amazon.com in January.
