The creators of the long-running SAW franchise and its foremost sequel director are both cutting in with new projects. And one of them, perhaps inevitably, will be in 3-D.

Variety reports that the first SAW’s director James Wan and scripter Leigh Whannell (pictured) will make INSIDIOUS as part of a five-picture lineup backed by the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY team of Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steve Schneider. According to Production Weekly, the movie (a.k.a. THE FURTHER and THE ASTRAL) stars 28 WEEKS LATER’s Rose Byrne and WATCHMEN’s Patrick Wilson in the story of a family whose comatose son has become a conduit for evil spirits. A U.S. distributor has yet to be announced, though Alliance will release INSIDIOUS in Canada, the UK and Spain, while Wild Bunch has it for France.

And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed SAW II-IV, is reteaming with Scott Milam, the screenwriter of his upcoming MOTHER’S DAY remake, on a serial-killer chiller called NINETY. To be produced by Christopher Mallick’s Oxymoron Entertainment and Blue Star Entertainment’s William Sherak and Jason Shuman (the latter’s credits include THE BURROWERS and THE MESSENGERS), NINETY as about a psychopath aiming to set a kill record by claiming 90 victims. It’ll lens this summer in New Mexico in 2-D, and then converted to three dimensions.
