We ran a chat with director Joe Lynch (pictured) yesterday about CHILLERAMA (out today on DVD and Blu-ray from Image Entertainment) and his upcoming KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM, and today we have some words on his next feature, an unusual action-thriller called EVERLY.

Set to begin production early next year, EVERLY is “unlike anything I’ve ever done before,” Lynch tells Fango. “It’s like ‘DIE HARD in a room,’ and it’s really exciting. The best way to describe the plot is: One woman, 100 yakuza, 10,000 bullets. It’s like all the thrillers I love—movies by Michael Mann and the Coen Brothers and Luc Besson—wrapped up into one. It’s the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced as a filmmaker, because it’s so far out of my comfort zone, but that’s what I love about some of the directors I’ve admired in the past, the ones who don’t stay in the same genre—though I’m not saying I’d ever leave horror.

“EVERLY was a story I came up with that I had my college buddy Yale Hannon write the screenplay for,” he continues. “It was on the Black List last year, which was amazing and really helped propel it forward. And it was the challenge of, ‘Can we make a movie that takes place entirely in one room where the camera can’t leave?’ that inspired us to tell this story. It’s something that’s very near and dear to my heart, and it’s gonna be insanity. I cannot wait to do it.” We’ll keep you posted on EVERLY’s progress.
