Back in 2008, when this writer was plowing through entries for the mighty Melbourne Underground Film Festival, one movie stood out: FAMILY DEMONS. One of the best no-budget horror flicks we’ve recently had the pleasure to eyeball (and that’s truly saying something), it loudly announced Adelaide-based filmmaker Ursula Dabrowsky as a filmmaker to be reckoned with. Now, after more than 12 months of serious preparation, Dabrowsky has come back like some vengeful demonic force to let the world know that filming will commence early in 2012 on her new slice of cinematic fright, INNER DEMON. Bearing the tagline “You don’t have to die to go to hell,” INNER DEMON grabs influences from the new French extremes of the genre, and, with upgraded physical and economic circumstances, takes the thematic concerns of FAMILY DEMONS and molds them into a new abduction thriller that soon twists into a sickening tale of revenge from beyond the grave. The synopsis goes like this: “Teenager Sam Durelle and her younger sister are home alone when a knock at the door leads Sam down the road to terror. Abducted by a serial-killer couple, Sam manages to escape and find refuge in a desolate farmhouse, only to discover it is home not only to her assailants, but a malevolent spirit. Trapped in the house, Sam is propelled into a struggle for survival, one that will push her to the limits not only physically and emotionally, but spiritually.”

Designed to seriously creep you out and get under your skin, INNER DEMON will star Andreas Sobik (right), Kerry Reid from FAMILY DEMONS and newcomer Sarah Jeavons (at top and below). Sue Brown and Julie Byrne are producing INNER DEMON, which has funding from the South Australian government’s Filmlab Initiative—and which Dabrowsky intends to be the second installment of a “Demon Trilogy.” Check out the teaser below, and visit the movie’s Facebook page.
