Canada’s Digger Films has announced that it will premiere UNDER THE SCARES, its long-in-the-works documentary about the independent horror filmmaking scene, May 29 in New York City. The movie’s creators also gave Fango the first look at the full poster, which you can see below the jump.

Directed by Steve Villeneuve, written by Villeneuve and William Dio and produced by Villeneuve, Hugo Bissonnet and Simon Geraghty, UNDER THE SCARES began shooting back in summer 2006 and wrapped up last fall. Over those years, the Digger Films team (who previously created the fright anthology feature STORY OF A GRAVEDIGGER) captured a wide assortment of directors, producers, FX artists and actresses talking on camera about the craft and challenges of low-budget fright fare. The interviewees include Herschell Gordon Lewis (pictured above), Robert Kurtzman, Lloyd Kaufman, END OF THE LINE’s Maurice Devereaux, Debbie Rochon, Gary Jones, After Dark Films’ Courtney Solomon, Brinke Stevens, Mike Watt, Amy Lynn Best, JimmyO Burril and SV Bell, plus Tony Timpone and yours truly representing the FANGORIA point of view.

More details on the NYC premiere are coming shortly. Check out the trailer below, and see the official website for more information and preview clips from UNDER THE SCARES.
