Bong Joon-ho, one of the titans of Korean genre cinema who gave us the exceptional THE HOST and MEMORIES OF MURDER is getting rolling on his long-gestating take on French graphic novel LE TRANSPERCENEIGE.
The tale, set in a tundra-like aftermath caused by world war and climate change, sees survivors of the devastation aboard a train that quickly descends into a uncivilized vessel. Korean Film reports that the equally esteemed Park Chan-wook (OLDBOY, THIRST) is producing the film, which will see most of its action aboard the train, which shares its name with the title: SNOWPIERCER.
Planned to be an international co-production between South Korea, France and the U.S., Bong Joon-ho has high expectations for SNOWPIERCER and actor Song Kang-ho (THE HOST, THIRST), telling the site, "When I was filming THE HOST, I wanted in a way to makesuch a definitive film set around the Han River that other directors wouldn’t be able to shoot there again [laughs]. With SNOWPIERCER
SNOWPIERCER is expected to shoot in Czech Republic in March.
