Studiocanal, producers of the original 2006 incredibly taut THEM, are gearing up for an English-language remake.
Variety reports that the studio have hired commercial and shorts-director David Alcalde to take on the new version. The original, directed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud (who sadly, haven't had a film since 2008's sour remake of THE EYE) told of a French couple in rural Romania, and the night their home is invaded by hooded figures.
The previous film is lean and relentlessly suspenseful, and doubtfully needs a retread, but Alcalde has also previously won acclaim and awards for his horror short, HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2 YOU.
Random aside: This presents an opportunity for plenty of people to snidely comment, "But wasn't it already remade as THE STRANGERS?! lololol" Don't do that. Obvious joke is obvious, and wrong.
