This past weekend, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 became the biggest horror opening of all time, that new adaptation of THE STAND got one surprising, talented director on board and AMERICAN HORROR STORY gets a visit from The Black Dahlia.

-Taking in a whopping $54 million domestically (with just a $5 million production budget), the latest (and in my opinion, best) PARANORMAL ACTIVITY film is now the biggest horror opening, well ever. An additional $26 million was taken in overseas, seeing its full gross rise to $80 million. I think my head would explode if a fourth installment wasn't announced immediately.

-Deadline reported that actor-turned-damn good-director Ben Affleck (GONE BABY GONE, THE TOWN) will be taking on Stephen King's epic THE STAND, a sprawling work about the eternal struggle of light and dark after an epidemic wipes out the majority of Americans. Currently in production on ARGO, there's no word on just what Affleck's plans are for the film, but he's an intriguing and exciting choice, for sure.

-TV Line revealed that current television hit AMERICAN HORROR STORY has cast Mena Suvari (AMERICAN BEAUTY, Stuart Gordon's STUCK) in a guest role. Under the moniker, The Black Dahlia, the role sees Suvari's character naturally have a connection to show's haunted home. It's not entirely certain, however, if the character will actually be connected to the infamous Hollywood murder, or just reference it.
