The blood-slingers from Japan’s Sushi Typhoon company go
truly apocalyptic with HELLDRIVER, which reteams TOKYO GORE POLICE director
Yoshihiro Nishimura and star Eihi Shiina. Full details of the U.S. disc release
have come through, along with a peek at the cover.
Well Go USA issues HELLDRIVER on DVD and in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack November 22. AUDITION cult queen Shiina stars as Rikka, the queen of the legions of undead that have taken over Japan, and are opposed by her daughter Kika (Yumiko Hara), who’s armed with a chainsaw sword. The extensive special features include, per Well Go:
“Three exclusive short films set within the HELLDRIVER universe: HELLDRIVER DOKATA [directed by HELLDRIVER 1st assistant director Jun Shiozaki], CATCH ME IF YOU CAN! [directed by lighting director Hiroshi Ota] and BAILOUT! [directed by poster designer Yoshiki Takahashi]; an in-depth interview with Nishimura; and two behind-the-scenes featurettes: ‘The Making of HELLDRIVER,’ directed by HELLDRIVER actor Demo Tanaka that not only details the making of the film, but also the literally hellish conditions under which the film was shot [two-week shooting schedule, bad weather] and ‘Sushi Typhoon: Tokyo Invasion!’ [directed by Fango contributor Norman England] featuring interviews with many of the team while launching the Sushi Typhoon festival, where four films were screened for a month in the Ginza area of Tokyo.”
Retail prices are $24.98 for the DVD, $29.98 for the combo pack. See the trailer below and look for a chat with Shiina in Fango #308, on sale in October, and more HELLDRIVER coverage on this site as the street date approaches.
