Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema is having a VHS Goes to Camp
party tomorrow, Thursday night at 9:30 p.m. They want you to “Pack a knapsack
full of tapes and fresh drawers ’cause what we have in store will make you
pitch a tent.”
The Nitehawk, located at 136 Metropolitan Ave in Williamsburg, is hosting this event with the involvement of Camp Motion Pictures, Wild Eye Releasing and Horror Boobs. This analog expedition will take you deep into Camp’s BASEMENT—i.e. its just-released big-box VHS/DVD set containing five Super-8/shot-on-video fear flicks. Director Gary Cohen will give a talk about his 1987 cult fave VIDEO VIOLENCE, which will be screened (off the original VHS, of course), and the show also includes classic trailers and exclusive clip reels. Horror Boobs will also give you a chance to earn a VHS merit badge with a trivia/games competition and a double-D-sized bag of prizes and giveaways from sponsors.
The event is totally free, and you can picnic on site thanks to Nitehawk’s full bar and restaurant. Tape trading is encouraged, and will be facilitated.
