An atmospheric period ghost tale with Rebecca Hall? Do enjoy the trailer for THE AWAKENING below.
Having not even seen its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival yet (that's this Friday as a Gala event), THE AWAKENING has already been acquired for U.S. distribution and sees a UK cinema release on November 11.
The film concerns "a renowned author and debunker of hoaxes, Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall), called to a provincial boarding school to explain away sightings of a phantom boy. What she discovers will prompt her to reconsider her deductive tactics — and send her mind spiraling back to a distant, forgotten past. Set in 1921, THE AWAKENING belongs to a great English tradition of ghost stories that work their chills through psychology and suggestion."
The Guardian debuted the eerie, if possibly overlong trailer (the less we know looks to be the better). Is there anything better than an old-fashioned tale of hauntings and madness? Between this and THE WOMAN IN BLACK, I'm just terribly excited.
