In the works for a few years now, the horror/Western DANCES WITH WEREWOLVES now has a nice chunk of change to dance with. A new production announcement has come down from a company that also has another period chiller in its pipeline.

Australia-based Galloping Illusions let Fango know about its two-picture production deal with New York’s Ariane Entertainment that includes a $10-million budget for WEREWOLVES, which we last reported on (with an exclusive piece of monster production art) here. Set during the Civil War and focusing on a group of POWs battling Native American shapeshifters, the film will be directed by Chad Ferrin (pictured above) and rolls in Louisiana next January. Carlos Alperin and Roham Ghodsi (of Ferrin’s previous SOMEONE’S KNOCKING AT THE DOOR) are producing, with Rene Robinson as executive producer; SFX Studio, whose credits include UNDERWORLD and ALIEN TRESPASS, will handle the special FX, with postproduction overseen by Crest Digital (TITANIC, THE MATRIX, STAR TREK)—though it isn’t clear whether the movie, as previously announced, will still be in 3D. Casting is currently underway.

The second film is the latest to recast historical figures as supernatural heroes: in THOMAS EDISON, DEMON HUNTER, rival inventors Edison and Nikola Tesla join forces to stop legendary occultist Aleister Crowley from unleashing hell on Earth. This one will also shoot in Louisiana, beginning in July 2012. Look for more details as they come in!
