Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer were the hottest horror starlets of the 1980s, and their story is told in B+Boy Productions’ new documentary SCREAMING IN HIGH HEELS: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE SCREAM QUEEN ERA. A premiere has been set and a poster and trailer have been unveiled, so read on…

Directed by Jason Paul Collum, who first told us about the project here, SCREAMING IN HIGH HEELS charts the careers of Quigley, Stevens and Bauer, who became cult icons during the ’80s’ direct-to-video boom. As Collum describes it, the actresses “headlined upwards of 10 films per year, fending off men in rubber monster suits, pubescent teenage boys and deadly showers. They were flown all over the world, met President Reagan and built mini-empires of trading cards, 1-900 numbers, model kits and comic books, exploiting the industry exploiting them. Then it all came crashing down.

“Having received little respect at the time, and today their importance and substantial contributions to the horror-film industry mostly forgotten—sometimes deliberately—this documentary brings an educational, fun and positive aspect to express how smart these three women were to play stupid.” In addition to the trio, interviewees include their frequent directors Fred Olen Ray and David DeCoteau and other collaborators.

SCREAMING IN HIGH HEELS will have its world premiere on Saturday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Chicago’s Flashback Weekend of Horror, which takes place  at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare (5440 N. River Road, Rosemont, IL). Collum and Quigley will introduce the movie and conduct a Q&A afterward, and the duo and editor Derrick Carey will be available in the dealer/celebrity rooms throughout the weekend.
