As a run-up to FANGORIA’s free screening of the box-office smash INSIDIOUS on Monday, July 11 at Los Angeles’ Silent Movie Theater, hosted by director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell, see below for a rerun of our exclusive two-part video interview  with Wan (see previous installments with Whannell here and here). Today the director reveals how he made a truly frightening PG-13 horror film without a drop of gore and also offers an aside on the torture phenomenon that he launched with SAW.

Fango’s July 11 INSIDIOUS LA event starts at 7:30 p.m., and the film’s creative team will participate in a Q&A after the screening moderated by Fango contributor/filmmaker Anthony C. Ferrante (BOO, HEADLESS HORSEMAN). And for the first time for FANGORIA fans, the Q&A portion of the event will be streamed live over the web on Facebook and Fangoria.com. Plus fans can send in their questions in advance via Facebook and Twitter using #INSIDIOUSLIVE.

The year’s most successful—and scariest—horror film thus far, INSIDIOUS pays tribute to such fright classics as CARNIVAL OF SOULS, THE EXORCIST and POLTERGEIST. Renais (28 WEEKS LATER’s Rose Byrne) and her husband Josh (HARD CANDY’s Patrick Wilson) are still unpacking boxes in their new home when she first senses a sinister presence. Eerie events steadily escalate into supernatural attacks, until one day oldest son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) slips into a baffling coma. Renais and Josh abandon their ghost-ridden abode and attempt to heal their broken family, turning to an unorthodox expert in paranormal occurrences (2001 MANIACS’ Lin Shaye). Chillingly, they soon discover—it’s not the house that’s haunted… Barbara Hershey (BLACK SWAN, THE ENTITY, RIDING THE BULLET) costars in the film, which was produced by PARANORMAL ACTIVITY’s Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider.
