A Guillermo del Toro film is even closer to reality. A release date has been set!
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. plans to release PACIFIC RIM July 12, 2013. The film stars Idris Elba and SONS OF ANARCHY's Charlie Hunnam and sees Earth under attack from epic creatures, with humans taking up mechas in defense.
Additonally, amidst the rounds of press for last night's L.A. Film Festival Premiere of DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, del Toro said PACIFIC RIM is to be the "biggest monster movie ever made," and shooting will hopefully get underway the first week in November [Collider].
He also told the LA Times he's not giving up on his H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, saying "MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS has been with me for 13, 14 years and I really don’t want to give up on it. Look, the movies I do, I stick with them when I think, well, if I don’t do it, nobody will. ...HELLBOY, if I hadn’t done it, I don’t think anyone would have. PAN'S LABYRINTH, the same thing. MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, the way I plan to do it is a very peculiar take, and I think if I don’t stick with it the version I would like to see would never get made."
While MOUNTAINS is something we'd all love to see, the coolness of PACIFIC RIM and del Toro's enthusiasm for it is just contagious. Can't wait to see the monsters he conjures up here.
