Phase 4 Films is continuing to
roll out a varied slate of fright fare, and has set a video-on-demand debut
date for the acclaimed indie ABSENTIA. Read on for the details on that (plus
the new poster) and a couple of the company’s future disc releases.
Writer/director Mike Flanagan’s ABSENTIA, which we first
reported on here and reviewed here, and has won multiple festival awards, stars Katie Parker, Courtney Bell and
Fango fave Doug Jones in the story of two sisters, one of whom is being
pressured to declare her long-missing husband dead “in absentia.” When they
discover a mysterious tunnel near their home, it becomes clear that his
disappearance and those of others are connected to it, and that supernatural
forces are at work. The movie premieres July 1 on VOD; check the
movie-on-demand section of your local cable platform. Currently
available on VOD are Phase 4’s June VOD titles, the fright flick KILL KATE
MALONE (which you can read about here)
and Uwe Boll’s spoofy BLUBBERELLA.
The company also has TERROR TRAP and LUCKY on tap for disc release this fall. TERROR TRAP, coming on DVD September 27, is a survival shocker in the VACANCY mode about a couple (played by David James Elliott and Heather Marsden) whose car breaks down during a weekend road trip, and who have the bad luck to wind up at a motel run by Michael Madsen. Written and directed by Dan Garcia, the movie also stars genre vet Jeff Fahey and will be presented in 16x9-enhanced widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound, with no extras other than the trailer.

Phase 4 then releases the black-comic serial-killer saga LUCKY on Blu-ray (a DVD release, if any, has yet to be determined) October 11, with a widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound. ALONE WITH HER’s Colin Hanks stars as Ben, a young man who wins the lottery, lands the girl of his dreams (Ari Graynor)—and also finds he can now pursue his other goal of committing multiple murders. Special features on the disc are:
• Audio commentary
• Deleted scenes
• Behind-the-scenes featurette
• Music video
• Theatrical trailer
Retail price for each disc is $29.99.
