HELLBOY creator and author Mike Mignola recently discussed the future of HELLBOY's film endeavors. He's convinced it will be del Toro-less.
Speaking to The Daily Blam, who caught up with the comics writer at the Calgary Comics Expo, Mignola mostly blamed what seems to be Guillermo del Toro's ever-growing roster of potential projects:
"Last I heard he said he would not make it. Guillermo – who I love – in every interview there's a new story on what his next movie is and he honestly believes he's going to do all these things. But last I heard, he said 'I'm never gonna get back to Hellboy. I'm not surprised because he won't live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he's told me he's going to make."
"I can't imagine him (Del Toro) making a HELLBOY 3. He's very enthusiastic and says he's going to do all these things....ummm....he's cute [laughed]."
Whether there's too much on his plate or not, it will end up being a sad affair if del Toro never gets to continue his HELLBOY series. THE GOLDEN ARMY was one of the best comic book adaptations we've had and the much-loved filmmaker apparently had spoken about having a clear cut idea of what he wanted to do with the third film. Of course, we won't know for sure until del Toro makes a decision, so here's to hoping for the best.
