The UK’s Film4 Frightfest is taking place August 25-29, and while its lineup of 40 movies won’t be announced until July 1, the event’s poster by long-standing Frightfester Graham Humphreys has hit the web.

If you don’t know of Humphreys, you’d probably recognize his UK poster art for such fright flicks as BASKET CASE, THE EVIL DEAD and EVIL DEAD II, the first five NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREETs and CREEPERS. “As it is the 12th year—my idea was a demonic creature crawling out of Big Ben—12 midnight, of course,” Humphreys says. “It’s also a sly nod to ‘Shock Around the Clock’ and there’s a sneaky reference to QUATERMASS AND THE PIT as well.”

Film4 Frightfest, the UK’s premier fantasy and horror film festival, runs from August 25-29 at its home in the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square. Head here to read about the fest’s opening and closing films.
